Low alcohol, plenty of impact
Lucky Saint, leading the charge in the low-alcohol beer market, partnered with Greenheart to improve its understanding of its sustainability impacts, risks and opportunities. At the same time, it wanted to upskill its internal team on how to conduct a robust double materiality assessment (DMA) process.

The challenge: updating their DMA for robustness and evolving standards
Lucky Saint had already carried out a DMA, and seen the value it could provide. However, the double materiality guidance landscape has evolved significantly, and the brand wanted to ensure its assessment was aligned with current global best practices.
The team sought to move beyond its initial assessment to capture a more nuanced understanding of the brand’s environmental and social impacts, as well as the financial risks and opportunities it faces, now and in the future. It understood that a robust DMA is a vital tool for strategic planning, so aimed to align with the latest industry standards, as well as equipping internal teams to apply the methodology themselves for future updates.
The assessment also continually supports the business with its B Corp certification.
How we did it: a collaborative and comprehensive update
Greenheart partnered closely with Lucky Saint to guide its team through a rigorous DMA update. Our support encompassed the entire process, including:
- A thorough review and refinement of the brand’s existing methodology to align with the latest global standards.
- Supporting enhanced stakeholder engagement to help Lucky Saint gather valuable insights from a diverse range of voices to inform the assessment
- Value chain mapping to ensure a holistic and comprehensive view of potential impacts, risks and opportunities
- Conducting desk-based research across multiple relevant sustainability standards and frameworks to collaboratively identify impacts, risks and opportunities in a way that was both meaningful and practical for Lucky Saint, drawing on the combined technical expertise of the Lucky Saint and Greenheart teams where needed.
- Guiding Lucky Saint through the scoring process from both an impact materiality and financial materiality perspective. This ensured the assessment identified the most significant issues for both the business and stakeholders in a fair and transparent way.
- Helping Lucky Saint communicate the outputs of the DMA effectively through a summary report. This included identifying key insights and exploring how these findings could directly inform and shape the brand’s future sustainability strategy, giving the business a clear framework to focus and prioritise its next steps.
The overall outcome: a clear path to prioritised action
The updated DMA provides Lucky Saint with a clear and robust foundation for its sustainability strategy. The team now has a much deeper understanding of its most significant impacts, risks and opportunities across its value chain, enabling the team to prioritise efforts effectively.
The collaborative approach has equipped the Lucky Saint team to manage and update the assessment in future, fostering long-term integration within the business. By communicating the assessment’s findings clearly, Lucky Saint can build trust with stakeholders while underscoring its dedication to people and planet.
Overall deliverables
Throughout the project, we maintained a transparent and collaborative approach, empowering the Lucky Saint team by providing the knowledge and tools needed to replicate the process independently in the future if needed. The key deliverables included comprehensive methodology documentation, a scoring matrix and a summary report comprising an executive summary and annex, clearly outlining the DMA’s inputs, outputs and strategic implications.
Moments that Mattered
Lucky Saint wanted to ensure that all stakeholders impacted by the business were included in the work we did together…including nature.
We invited our Lead Environmental Consultant and passionate nature ambassador, Emma, to represent and be interviewed as “nature” in the stakeholder engagement part of this project. She contributed valuable insights, helping the Lucky Saint team to provide real data and impactful stories to support board and investor conversations.
