Our Climate Action Plan

Reducing our emissions and maximising our positive impact is ingrained into what we do. We’ve been busy behind the scenes focussing on taking action, and are proud to announce we have set a climate target on the SME Climate Hub.

For us this means:

  • Maintaining our scope 1 and 2 emissions at 0 tCO2e
  • Setting additional targets for scope 3

We will be able to share more about our scope 3 targets soon. Since scope 3 is the majority of our footprint, it is important we get these right. Either way, they will be based on science and the emission reduction needed for a 1.5C or below trajectory.

What action have we been taking?

We have been creating a robust climate action plan in line with best practice guidance. This means we have a plan to ambitiously reduce emissions in at least the short term.

Our plan:

  • Was developed collaboratively with all internal stakeholders
  • Details clear roles and responsibilities
  • Is based on SMART principles to ensure its success
  • Considers how we will resource the plan, in terms of human, technical and material resources
  • Considers how we will approach carbon compensation, and lays out some core principles
  • Considers the impact on multiple stakeholders, such as clients, employees, suppliers and nature. We are exploring how we can better integrate just transition principles into our strategy

What challenges have we faced?

We challenged ourselves to practice what we preach. Here are some of the key barriers we faced and how we are trying to overcome them.

We’re a very small service based business. How do we balance responsibility with influence?

We focus on collective impact. Greenheart is in an ecosystem with our suppliers and their suppliers and so on. We’re exploring how to work with key suppliers to improve our collective impact. We have a wealth of skills and knowledge in-house, all of which can support our suppliers to manage impact and reduce emissions.

How do we integrate just transition principles into our plan?

This is by far the most difficult one. Do we support projects in those areas most impacted by the climate crisis? Do we support projects local to home?

We asked our employees! We came to a consensus that whatever we do should:

  • Consider any unintended consequences of our actions before taking them
  • Support projects closer to home with our expertise, knowledge and time
  • Use our platform to further elevate voices from communities most impacted by the climate and ecological crisis and continue advocating for change
